 General
 1. How do I obtain parts and service for my DEK products?
The first step is to contact our technical help-line 24/7 at [1] 800-393-0668.  We can help troubleshoot and get you up and running.  If we determine that it requires servicing whether in warranty or out-of-warranty, we will set up a service work order for you.  Parts only requests are shipped from our Clayton, NC warehouse.  Note: please have your date of purchase, model number, and serial number readily available (for generators, we will need the hour meter reading as well).

 2. What if my DEK engine doesn’t start?
Here are the steps to follow when your engine will not start:
Is there enough fresh gasoline?
Is the fuel valve on? Be sure to turn it all the way on.
Is the ignition switch in the "on" position?
Is there enough oil in the engine?
Your generator requires between 1.1 - 1.5 quarts of 10W-30 motor oil.  It should be filled all the way to the top as if it’s overflowing.
If you are still unable to start your engine, call our technical assistance help-line at [1] 800-393-0668.
 3. What makes using residential extension cords a safety hazard?
First, if an extension cord is plugged into your household or business wiring and your main breaker is not open, it can cause serious injury or death to yourself and the line workers when the power comes back on. Second, when the power comes back on it can cause damage to the generator and your home appliances if all the wiring is not isolated. Third, the voltage drop caused by long extension cords can burn out your appliances or cause computers to malfunction. For instance, running a fridge on a 100’ extension cord may shorten the life of your fridge motor by many months because it was running with low voltage while connected to the generator (the motor runs hotter when the voltage is too low).

 Generators
 1. How much oil do I use?
Your generator requires between 1.1 - 1.5 quarts of 10W-30 motor oil.  It should be filled all the way to the top as if it’s overflowing.
 2. How long can I run my generator model on models 5000(EL), 5650(EL), 6500(EL)?
Your generator should be able to run at half load for approximately 10 - 12 hours.
 3. How long can I run my generator before I have to shut it down?
You should never run your generator out of fuel while it is running under a load. If this happens and sensitive equipment is being powered, it could destroy that piece of equipment or cause damage to the generator.  In general you can run the generator 24 hours a day at half load as long as it has fuel.
 4. What is the amp rating of your twist-lock plug?
It is 30 amps.
 5. What kind of cord do you recommend that we use with our DEK generator?
A NEMA L14-30 extension cord is recommended to run your generator safely.
 6. What is special about the cord you offer?
The cords are 220V 30 amp twist lock cables. These are not normal extension cords. They are UL listed and designed specifically to operate safely with electric generators. They have special water tight and fire proof jackets to improve your safety while operating at full load. Note, these cords are all rated at 30 amps so they can be used with all of our generators.  For more information about our cords and generator accessories, go to accessories on the left hand side menu or contact us at [1] 866-550-3221.
 7. Can the generator be used during inclement weather?
Generators are used in a wide variety of weather conditions, but they should be protected from the elements to prevent shorting and rusting. Protection for the unit must be provided in a manner that does not impede the air flow to the unit needed for cooling both the engine and generator head.
